TO ALL MEN OF THIBODAUX FUMC
The First United Methodist Church UMM wishes to extend an invitation to all male church members, visitors or attendees to join us in our charitable efforts in the coming year, both within our own church and the broader Christian community. We are a group of Christian men who desire to make a difference. It is our wish to become known as a flexible, caring resource of men willing to engage worthy Christian needs.
In the past, donations of Thibodaux UM Men have helped fund local Scouting activities, responded to UMCOR disaster requests, provided funding for the additional education needs of a local disadvantaged child, provided help for the poor and contributed to church facility needs. We would like to continue these kinds of activities into the coming year and additionally, take advantage of a Lorio Foundation grant which provides matching funds for church capital improvements. This could be an excellent opportunity for the UMM to leverage it’s contributions for the benefit of the church.

On May 26 a group from UMM went to the Historic Gibson United Methodist Church to start a clean-up of the cemetery. We were met there by Dr. Dickie Walther, who is the caretaker of the church and grounds. He gave us a history lesson and allowed us to see the inside of the sanctuary and its contents. Hugh Caffery, Fred Davis, Walt Shoemake and Gary Smith made up the work crew. Our goal was to clean all the tombs, but we were unable to finish and will be returning in the near future to complete the project. Dr. Walther was very appreciative of our efforts since no one had ever offered their services. Thibodaux UMM has agreed to take on the Gibson Church as an ongoing project.
