On Sunday, April, 30, 2006, FUMC celebrated the cancelling of the mortgage on the property we purchased for a new worship center. This is a big accomplishment, since we paid off a 15 year mortgage of almost $300,000 in 5 1/2 years. Planning is now underway for our new facility.

Rev. Penn, Mrs. Dot Meyer, Mr. Bill Cain, Mrs. Grace Monk Gueydan, and Mr. Walter Skaggs as we gather to burn the note.

New Property Fact Finding Group

An ad hoc group has been organized and met to gather facts about the best course of action to take with regards to our new property and its development. The group raised some private funds and had a representative from Worship Concepts (Website: http://www.worshipconcepts.com) make a presentation on Friday July 14th. Their representative, Mr. Phil DiAmico described their services and showed pictures of some of their completed projects. WC would be the general contractor, should they be selected, but would use local contractors to do the actual construction. They would furnish an onsite superintendent. Cost estimates would not be available until the plans are approved. Should we contract with them, they would furnish plans, models and elevation drawings in phase one. The initial cost would be about $16,000. Mr. DiAmico left references which we will check at the appropriate time.

We met again on Monday July 17th to discuss the presentation and related issues. Group consensus seemed to be that this may or may not be the company we choose but when we do build on the property it would be best to find the proven performers who offer comprehensive services, from planning to completion; and that our immediate focus as a church should be on building our ministry. We will be inviting another company to make a presentation for comparison purposes. Private funds will be used for this visit also. (No funds from the general fund will be used.)

Our precious church needs prayer and understanding from its members, both old and new, to understand God’s vision for our ministry to the people of Thibodaux.

We will continue to gather information that will be useful at the appropriate time. Anyone who is interested in being included in the group or has questions concerning the activities of the group can contact Pastor Penn or our Lay Leader Walt Shoemake. Please bear in mind that this group is not an official representative of the church, but is gathering information to present to the congregation for its approval should it decide to proceed.
