To: Little School Parents and Friends,
Over thirty years ago a group of far sighted women and men from First United Methodist Church had a dream. That dream was to establish a high-quality
, Christian, early childhood education program that would meet the needs of families with children in our community. That dream became FUMCs Little School. For over three decades hundreds of children have begun a lifelong love of learning through this incredible ministry. Many things have changed over the last thirty years. When FUMC's Little School was established it took a building the size of The Little School itself to house a mainframe computer that has only a fraction of the capability the average smart phone has today. Given the incredible change that has taken place since The Little School was founded the time has come for us to dream once again. The time has come to dream dreams and take steps that will ensure that The Little School continues to serve our community for the next thirty years.
On September 12, at a called charge conference, our church authorized the planning of a building project that
, when completed, will result in the relocation of The Little School to property owned by First United Methodist Church on North Canal Boulevard.Relocating The Little School will enable us to continue to offer our half-day preschool program and maintain our current enrollment levels. The program that has served our community for thirty plus years, a high quality half-day preschool for two, three, and four year olds in a Christian setting will continue to be offered only in a new, state of the art, educational facility.
Relocating will also provide the solution to one of the most challenging situations we face in our current facility: drop-off and pick-up line. As a parent who has waited in line on the shoulder or Canal Boulevard as heavy trucks rumble pass I know I am looking forward to the day when drop-off and pick-up does not require us to line up along a major highway.
Relocation will also provide us the opportunity to explore offering additional programs to families whose needs are not met by our half-day preschool program. We have many inquires each year about full-day preschool, extended after care hours, as well as infant care. We will be exploring these options and, if we determine that expanding our program of ministry will help us meet the needs of more families in our community, the new facility will be designed to enable us to do so.
But above all this relocation project will enable us to continue to offer the same high quality, half-day Christian preschool programming that has served the needs of so many families in Thibodaux since 1977.
The coming months will be filled with opportunities to dream about the future. It will also be filled with the difficult decisions and hard work required to turn dreams into reality. We ask that you pray for this project and for the building committee. Pray that God gives them a glimpse of His dream for The Little School and that God also provide the resources needed to bring this project to a successful completion.
We will make every effort to keep you informed of the status of this project. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
Grace & Peace,
Rev. Donnie Wilkinson,
Pastor
